Capital Coach Shingo Ina has named a 14-player strong team for the upcoming Women’s Futsal SuperLeague to be held at the ASB Sports Centre, from the 14th-16th February. The team have been preparing well for the last 6 weeks and are looking forward to trying to do one better than last year after they fell at the last hurdle against the Canterbury Pride in the final.
Capital has managed to maintain 9 key players from the 2019 squad as well as introduce exciting young talent such as Jemma Catherwood and Samantha Whyte. Capital’s Captain, Katie Barrott, is excited about the talent within this year’s squad.
“I think if you look at our team and the experience across all of the players, we’ll go into the campaign with a very strong core. It’s also boosted by some fresh new talent and is a testament to the growth of the female game here in Wellington. The squad has gelled really well, and we’re looking forward to displaying a positive brand of futsal here in Wellington in front of our family and friends.”
The SuperLeague coincides with the Capital Girls and Women’s Week. Capital Football staff are out in the community running several Futsal festivals at the region’s top Futsal facilities. Capital’s first game kicks off on Friday at 12pm which coincides with the Wellington based Girls Futsal Festival. The festival players will get the chance to see the Capital Women’s team take on Canterbury in the opening game, in what is a repeat of the 2019 final and expected to be an exciting action packed display of what is to come over the weekend.
