Wellington Olympic will bank on a coaching change to turn their Central League fortunes around.
The club announced during the week they had parted ways with head coach Stu Jacobs - who won the Central League in his first season with Olympic in 2016 - and Capital Premier coach James Prosser.
The first team have lost their last four games in a row, including 7-2 to Stop Out on April 28 and 2-1 to last-placed Havelock North Wanderers last weekend.
That came after Jacobs guided them to three wins in their first four games, but the reversal in form sees them sitting just three points above the relegation spot.
Shaun Easthope has taken over Jacobs’ role, while Matt Kolic and Maki Halikias will take the Capital Premier team which sits bottom of the league.
Both teams take on Lower Hutt City at Wakefield Park on Saturday afternoon and evening.
Saturday also sees another crucial clash at the bottom of the ladder when Miramar Rangers host Waterside Karori. Miramar sit eighth, one point above Karori and Havelock North, but should start to welcome back their OFC Champions League-winning Team Wellington players from this week on - as will a number of other clubs.
Havelock North Wanderers, who sit bottom, but level on six points with Karori, host Western Suburbs on Sunday in a tough matchup for them.
It will be second v third at Newtown Park on Saturday when Wellington United play Stop Out, while the chasing pack will be hoping Wairarapa United can get the better of leaders Napier City Rovers when they meet in Masterton on Saturday night.
The remaining Capital Premier action sees Petone tussle with surprise package Kapiti Coast United.
Newly-promoted Kapiti looked like they might be heading straight back down to Capital 1 when losing their first four games this season, but have produced a spectacular revival to win their next four on the trot to sit fourth, one point behind second-placed Petone.
And second might be just about the lot for teams not named North Wellington this year.
The Maroons have a nine-point gap at the top of the table after eight games and take on second-to-last Western Suburbs reserves at Endeavour Park on Saturday.
Other games see Upper Hutt City play Tawa and Miramar Rangers’ reserves host Island Bay United.
In the W-League, the second round begins with Wellington United looking to keep their perfect five-from-five record intact when they travel to Maidstone Park to play last year’s champions Upper Hutt City.
United got the better of their rivals in their season opener with a 4-0 triumph, but Upper Hutt have won their last three games on the trot in impressive fashion.
Wairarapa United, who sit level on 10 points with Upper Hutt, five points behind Wellington, will look to maintain their early season form when they play Western Suburbs at Endeavour Park on Saturday. Wests have impressed with a win and a draw in their first five games at this level. Wairarapa got the better of Wests in their first meeting of the season when winning 4-0 in round one.
The final match of the round sees Seatoun search for their first win, against Palmerston North Marist at Memorial Park. Two of Seatoun’s five losses have come by a solitary goal, although they lost 4-1 to PNM in round one.
In the Women’s Premier League, Waterside Karori will look to maintain their three-point gap over Victoria University and Wellington United’s reserves at the top of the table when they take on Brooklyn Northern United.
University play winless Stop Out, while United face a stiffer test against fourth-placed Petone. Sunday’s other match sees Island Bay United host Kapiti Coast United.
